Is the Book Always Better Than the Movie?

Last Friday we watched Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. This time The Mom checked out Rotten Tomatoes (a great website for movie reviews) and Kit was Certified Fresh --92% of "top critics" liked the movie and well, so did we.

Kit is a young fireball in this mystery set during the height of the depression, a dreamer who knows how to exist within her reality. The ending is just too good, kind of an Its a Wonderful Life ending, all tied up in a neat little bow, but that can be nice... a good happy ending.

The Big and Little Sister have read all sorts of American Girl books, they really like the history mysteries and have enjoyed most, but it is impossible to say if this movie is better than the books... there are so many American Girl books! Let's just say the books are good and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl is pretty darn good.  Abigail Breslin is fantastic in the movie.  Although we like her role as Nim in Nim's Island best--we need to read that book by Wendy Orr and let you know what we think book vs movie!!

Help our readers sift through all the movies out there, tell us all about a movie that had its first life as a book, click here to post a comment.

  1. I'm anxious to contribute to today's link after watching "Eat, Pray, Love" tonight! I cannot imagine anything better than Elizabeth Gilbert's writing, but hey, I love Julia! Hoping the adaptation hits the mark.

  2. Just one time I found the movie better than the book, and that was The Painted Veil.
